What You Don’t Know You Know: The Chariot

I have been studying tarot for over 30 years and if you know me, you know I am a diehard Rider-Waite girl. Psychics have told me that in my last life I was in the circus. I think I sat in a tent day after day doing readings with this deck. I love the deck, hate the circus.

I have a picture of Pamela Colman Smith in my home and I thank her for her brilliance whenever I walk by. Today I did a study of the Chariot and AGAIN discovered something new in her symbolism.

The Chariot is not only male power but it is balance. It is about finding spiritual balance and making decisions from that place.

Pamela made her living making Playbills for shows. If you look carefully at the shoulders of the Chariot you will see they are the comedy and tragedy masks. His body is right in the middle showing emotional balance. What a great way to show that!
